Blue Key National Honor Society was founded at the University of Toledo in 1934 as ARX. The purpose of ARX was to recognize individuals who excelled in campus leadership, scholarship, and the promotion of the University of Toledo. In 1953 ARX was accepted as a chapter of Blue Key National Honor Society. Blue Key began admitting women in 1978. Today Blue Key continues with many of the traditions and rituals of the founding organization. The members of Blue Key are responsible for the annual events of the Homecoming Parade in the fall and Songfest in the spring. In addition to such responsibilities, membership involves a strong sense of brotherhood among both active and alumni brothers.
The active membership of Blue Key is limited to 13 upper-class students. New members are selected by the current active class. The criteria for selection include high academic achievement, outstanding community and university service, and, most importantly, leadership experience and quality. To be eligible for this top honor, applicants must be of Junior standing with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Other application and eligibility requirements can be found on the application form. |
